Flashdance – The Musical to Play Broadway Beginning August 2013

Flashdance – The Musical, based on the popular Paramount Pictures film, will come to Broadway beginning August 2013 instead of the previously reported Spring 2013. Sergio Trujillo will direct and choreograph.
The musical centers on a working-class girl from Pittsburgh who works as a steel mill welder by day, and a bar dancer at night while aspiring to be accepted at a prestigious ballet academy.
The show features a book by Tom Hedley (co-writer of the original screenplay with Joe Eszterhas), and Robert Cary, music by Robbie Roth, and lyrics by Cary and Roth. Flashdance has been substantially rewritten and completely restaged under its new producing team following its London world premiere.
As previously announced, a separate national touring company of Flashdance launches in January 2013 at the Heinz Hall in Pittsburgh, the steel town that serves as the musical’s setting, and will continue to play over 25 markets in North America.
