Flashback Friday: Disney's Future Broadway Musicals, Frozen and Aladdin, Owe It All to This 1994 Production

It’s hard to believe that ”Beauty and the Beast”, the first Disney stage musical, hit Broadway two decades ago.

With all this Frozen and Aladdin business filling up our Disney-on-Broadway newsfeeds, we decided to flashback to the production that started it all. In 1994, Beauty and the Beast took Broadway by storm, making history as the first animated Disney film to come to Broadway. The musical set a strong precedent, running for the next 13 years and paving the way for the juggernauts like The Lion King, Mary Poppins, and now these next two hits-in-the-making.

With Broadway favorites like Terrance Mann and Susan Egan leading the magical cast, it's no wonder Disney musicals have become Broadway mainstays.
