Flashback Friday: Who Knew Cry-Baby's Cast Album Would Come 7 Years After This?

The musical may have been “a little upset” at the 2008 Tony Awards, but the show is finally getting its due.

Cry-Baby may have had only 68 post-opening performances when it hit Broadway in 2008, but its short run clearly packed a lasting punch. Not only did the production earn four Tony nominations (including one for Best Musical), but this week, it was announced that the show will finally receive the cast recording its niche fan base has been patiently awaiting for nearly a decade. Maybe this is Broadway's way of saying it's sorry for prematurely rejecting the John Waters-inspired musical — or perhaps we have a Cry-Baby renaissance in our midst. Whatever the case, reparation is on its way. In the meantime, we're flashing back to the show's electric Tony performance…so we can all get "a little upset" as we mourn Cry-Baby's lost years.
