Julie White, Jessica Hecht, and Mary Testa to Lead Rescheduled Reading of The First Wives Club
Indigo Theatre Project's benefit event is directed by Trip Cullman.
Jessica Hecht, Mary Testa, and Julie White will star in The Indigo Theatre Project's newly rescheduled benefit reading of Robert Harling's cult-favorite screenplay The First Wives Club, which will now take place on October 13 at the Mainstage Theater at Playwrights Horizons. Trip Cullman stages the evening, the proceeds of which will go to The Actors Fund's Phyllis Newman Women's Health Initiative.
Inspired by Olivia Goldsmith's 1992 novel of the same title, The First Wives Club tells the story of three middle-aged divorcées who seek revenge on their ex-husbands. Hecht takes on the role of Annie Paradis, with White as Elise Elliot and Testa as Brenda Cushman.
The company is also set to include John Ellison Conlee, Jeremy Shamos, Rebecca Naomi Jones, Margo Seibert, Tracee Chimo, Mary Beth Peil, Michael Cyril Creighton, and Julie Halston. Additional casting will be announced in the coming weeks.
The evening is produced in arrangement with Paramount Pictures by The Indigo Theatre Project (Nick Gereffi, artistic director, and Rachel Sussman, executive producer), with line producing by Allison Bressi. Shoshana Feinstein serves as associate producer.
Bette Midler, Goldie Hawn, and Diane Keaton led the cast of the 1996 film The First Wives Club, alongside Stephen Collins, Victor Garber, Dan Hedaya, Stockard Channing, Elizabeth Berkley, Sarah Jessica Parker, Bronson Pinchot, Marcia Gay Harden, Maggie Smith, Jennifer Dundas, and Philip Bosco.
