ETHEL’s TruckStop: The Beginning to Play BAM

The music group ETHEL will present the New York premiere of TruckStop: The Beginning, created in collaboration and directed by Annie Dorsen, at the Brooklyn Academy of Music on October 14, 16, 17, 18. There will also be a free post-show talk (for ticket holders) following the October 16 performance.

The show will feature the group’s four members, violinists Corneluis Dufallo and Mary Rowell, violist Ralph Farris, and cellist Dorothy Lawson, along with special guests Jeff Petersen (Hawaii slack-key guitar), Robert Mirabal (flute), Eva Ybarra (Tejana conjunto accordion), and Dean Osborne (banjo). It will also feature video footage shot by Kate Howard, projected as a virtual set.

Dorsen directed the Broadway and Off-Broadway hit Passing Strange. Her other work includes Democracy in America, Ecstatic States, and Antigone Arkhe.
