Academy Award winner Emma Thompson and Grammy-winning opera star Bryn Terfel opened in Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler's musical Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street at Avery Fisher Hall on March 5. Running through March 8, the New York Philharmonic production, directed by Lonny Price and featuring musical direction by Alan Gilbert, stars Terfel in the title role, with Thompson as Mrs. Lovett, Philip Quast as Judge Turpin, Christian Borle as Pirelli, Jay Armstrong Johnson as Anthony Hope, Erin Mackey as Johanna, Jeff Blumenkrantz as The Beadle, Kyle Brenn as Tobias Ragg, and Audra McDonald as the Beggar Woman.
