Elaine May Set for Screening and Discussion of Ishtar at 92nd Street Y
Writer and director Elaine May will participate in a screening and post-show discussion concerning the 1987 film comedy, Ishtar at the 92nd Street Y on Tuesday, May 17 at 7:15pm.
The film stars Warren Beatty and Dustin Hoffman as an incredibly untalented singing duo deployed to the Middle East. It was critically panned upon release, but has since garnered a cult following.
Moving Image Chief Curator David Schwartz will be interviewing May following the screening, in regards to the film, the strange Hollywood backstory behind its reputation as a flop, and about May’s career.
May’s many plays include After the Night and the Music, Taller Than a Dwarf, and Adult Entertainment. She is a two-time Academy Award nominee for the screenplays Heaven Can Wait and Primary Colors; her other film credits include A New Leaf, The Heartbreak Kid, and The Birdcage.
