Ed Harris and Amy Madigan will join Randy Orton in the family drama Big Red, according to a report in Variety. Mike Pavone has written the screenplay and is directing.

The movie, set in the mid-1960s, focuses on a bright 12-year-old boy whose English teacher (Harris) pairs him up on a project with the school’s biggest outcast and social pariah, a child known as “Big Red.” Madigan will play the school principal, and Orton will portray the father of another child at the school.

Harris is currently appearing in Neil LaBute’s Wrecks at the Geffen Playhouse in Los Angeles. He was last seen on Broadway in Taking Sides. His other stage credits include Precious Sons on Broadway, as well as Fool For Love and Simpatico, Off-Broadway. He has received Academy Award nominations for The Hours, Pollock, The Truman Show, and Apollo 13.

Madigan appeared on Broadway in A Streetcar Named Desire in the early 1990s. She received an Academy Award nomination for Twice in a Lifetime, and won a Golden Globe for the television film Roe v. Wade. Most recently, she has played Dr. Wyatt on television’s Grey’s Anatomy.
