Easton, Finkel, Garrison, Strong, et al. to Star in CSC's New Jerusalem
The play focuses on the 1656 interrogation of philosopher Baruch De Spinoza by the Jewish community of Amsterdam for his controversial ideas. It examines the clash between religion and modernity that Jews, Christians and Muslims are still struggling to reconcile. Ives' many plays include All in the Timing and Polish Joke and he recently adapted Mark Twain's Is He Dead?.
The cast will also feature Jenn Harris, Michael Izquierdo, and Natalia Payne. The design team will include John Lee Beatty (sets), Ken Billington (lighting), and Anita Yavich (costumes). Bobbie won the Tony Award for his direction of Chicago.
Easton won the Tony for his work in The Invention of Love, and was last seen on Broadway in The Coast of Utopia. Among his other notable credits are Henry IV, The Rivals, Noises Off, and The Country Wife. Finkel starred on Broadway as Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof, and his other notable stage credits include Little Shop of Horrors and Café Crown. Garrison received a Tony nomination for A Day in Hollywood/A Night in the Ukraine and most recently starred on Broadway in Wicked. Strong has appeared Off-Broadway in Frank's Home and Defiance.
