Eapen Leubner to Star in Encompass New Opera Theatre’s The Astronaut’s Tale

Encompass New Opera Theatre has announced that musical highlights from The Astronaut’s Tale by composer Charles Fussell with libretto by Jack Larson, will be performed as part of New American Opera Previews: From Page to Stage, on Sunday, March 18, at 2:30pm at Manhattan School of Music in New York City.

The Astronaut’s Tale traces a young man’s life from his first experience of loss, his dog killed by a car, the appearance of a mysterious Einstein-like presence of an Old Peddler, his youthful desire to become an astronaut, marriage and the fulfillment of his ambition.

Tenor Eapen Leubner will star as the title character, with Frank Basile, bass, as Peccavit, the Old Peddler; soprano Brittany Palmer as the central character’s Midwestern girlfriend, later his wife; and tenor Christopher Vettell as the Narrator.

The opera will be directed by Encompass Artistic Director Nancy Rhodes and the chamber orchestra, Ionisation, will be conducted by Mara Waldman, Encompass Music Director. Tony Bellamy is the Pianist.
