Don Cheadle Appointed U.N. Goodwill Ambassador

Don Cheadle has been appointed as a U.N. Environment Program Goodwill Ambassador, according to a report in the Associated Press. With the position, announced in a ceremony in Rwanda’s capital, the actor will help raise green awareness among millions of people around the globe.

Cheadle received an Academy Award nomination for his performance in in the 2004 movie Hotel Rwanda, which focused on the Rwandan genocide in 1994 that claimed the lives of more than 500,000 people. Among his many other screen credits are Ocean’s Twelve, Traitor and Crash. On stage he’s been seen in productions of Cymbeline and Topdog/Underdog at the Public Theater.
