Doctor Who Companion Arthur Darvill is Set to Star in Broadway's Once
Joanna Christie will also join the cast of the Tony Award-winning Best Musical.
Darvill is best known for work in the long-running BBC-TV series Doctor Who. He has also recently been seen on the London stage in Our Boys, Dr. Faustus, Swimming with Sharks, Marine Parade, Stacy, and Terre Haute. The British actor and musician has also appeared in films including Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll, Pelican Blood, Robin Hood, and The White Queen. He has written songs for the Shakespeare's Globe production of The Lightning Child, which will be presented this summer.
Joanna Christie was recently seen in the West End production of Peter Shaffer's Equus opposite Daniel Radcliffe (How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying). She has been seen on the small screen in Mr. Selfridge, Starlings, Misfits 3, Inspector Lewis Series II, Small Dark Places, No Angels, and Holby City. Her theater credits include The 24 Hour Plays, Be My Baby, School for Scandal, Dr. Faustus, Bloody Poetry, Immaculate Conceit, One Night in November, and The Ramshackle Heart at the Public Theater and The Old Vic.
Based off the Academy Award-winning film, Once tells the heartbreaking love story between a Dublin street musician and young immigrant girl. As the connection between them grows, so does their music. The emotionally captivating show also features an ensemble of actor/musicians who play their own instruments onstage alongside the musically gifted characters Guy and Girl.
Currently playing both on Broadway and in London's West End, Once features a a book by award-winning Irish playwright and screenwriter Enda Walsh (Penelope) and music and lyrics by Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová. The musical is directed by John Tiffany (Macbeth).
