Disney Confirms That Frozen Will Skate Its Way to Broadway

The Golden Globe Award-winning Disney musical has some Great White plans.

The Broadway-bound characters of Frozen (L to R): Elsa, Kristoff, Sven, Olaf, Anna, and Hans.

Our Disney dreams are coming true. Walt Disney CEO and chairman Bob Iger has reportedly confirmed the company's plans to transfer its latest animated musical to the Broadway stage.

This news comes as the film rides the high of its Golden Globe Award win for Best Animated Feature, which it received last night. The list of Broadway stars that the film already boasts seems to have primed the film for a seamless transition. The cast features Tony Award winner Idina Menzel (Wicked, If/Then) as the icy princess Elsa, film star and Broadway alum Kristen Bell (The Crucible) as Elsa's younger sister Anna, Tony nominee Santino Fontana (Cinderella) as Hans, Tony nominee Jonathan Groff (Spring Awakening) as Kristoff, and Tony nominee Josh Gad (The Book of Mormon) as the loveable snowman Olaf.

Frozen has already dealt Disney one of the biggest financial successes in the company's history as the No. 1 all-time Disney animation debut, earning $93.3 million over its five-day opening weekend this past Thanksgiving. Its total gross earnings have reached $669 million to date, and the soundtrack has reached No. 1 on both iTunes and Amazon.

Disney is now hopeful that this success on the silver screen will translate to the Great White Way. Iger has not specified when the move will happen, saying, "We're not demanding speed…We're demanding excellence."
