Tony Award winner David Hyde Pierce (Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike) and Broadway veterans Julia Murney (Wicked) and Paul Anthony Stewart (Fiddler on the Roof) will star in the Vineyard Theatre‘s October 2013 production of The Landing, a new musical by John Kander and Greg Pierce, the company has announced. Additionally, the Vineyard will present the New York premiere of another new musical, Arlington, written by Victor Lodato and Polly Pen, in February 2014.

Consisting of three mini-musicals connected by desire, love, and loss, The Landing is the first collaboration of the Tony Award-winning Kander, the legendary composer of Cabaret and Chicago, and playwright/lyricist Pierce, best known for his drama Slowgirl. Tony winner Walter Bobbie (Venus in Fur) directs the production, which had a developmental run at the Vineyard last year. Julia Murney and Paul Anthony Stewart along with David Hyde Pierce — who happens to be playwright Pierce’s uncle — repeat the roles they played in the lab production.

Arlington, with music by Pen and a book and lyrics by playwright/novelist Lodato, tells the story of Sara Jane, a young army wife struggling to remain positive while her husband is in combat despite the intense feelings that something is wrong. A one-act version of the musical, starring Alexandra Silber, was presented in 2012 by Premieres. The world premiere of the full-length version will take place at San Francisco’s Magic Theatre in the fall of 2013.

As previously reported, the Vineyard’s season will also include the world premiere of Nicky Silver’s newest play, Too Much Sun, to be directed by Mark Brokaw in May 2014.
