Cry-Baby to Close on June 22

The Broadway musical Cry-Baby will play its final performance at the Marquis Theater on June 22, after 45 previews and 68 regular performances. A national tour is planned for fall 2009.

The musical, based on the 1990 John Waters film of the same title, is directed by Mark Brokaw, with choreography by Rob Ashford, a book by Mark O’Donnell and Thomas Meehan and a score by David Javerbaum and Adam Schlesinger.

The principal cast features Chester Gregory II, Christopher Hanke, Harriet Harris, Carly Jibson, Alli Mauzey, Richard Poe, James Snyder, and Elizabeth Stanley.

The show received four Tony Award nominations, including Best Musical, Best Score, Best Book of a Musical, and Best Choreography. Snyder, Harris and Mauzey received Drama League commendations; Mauzey won a Theatre World Award, and Ashford and dancer Spencer Liff won this year’s Astaire Awards.
