Craig Bierko, Mark Consuelos, Polly Draper, Harriet Harris Set for Standing on Ceremony

Craig Bierko, Mark Consuelos, Polly Draper, and Harriet Harris will be the initial cast for the Off-Broadway premiere of Standing on Ceremony: The Gay Marriage Plays, to be presented at the Minetta Lane Theatre, with previews beginning November 7, and an opening set for November 13.

This evening of one-act plays, conceived by Brian Shnipper, includes works by playwrights Jordan Harrison, Jeffrey Hatcher, Moisés Kaufman, Joe Keenan, Neil LaBute, Wendy McLeod, José Rivera, Paul Rudnick and Doug Wright.


The Off-Broadway production will partner with Freedom to Marry, the campaign to win marriage nationwide, and will donate a portion of all ticket sales to that organization, as well as others promoting marriage equality.

As previously reported, on November 7, the play will also be performed across the globe as participating theaters in the U.S. and abroad will present the play to raise awareness and funds in support of marriage equality.


Bierko received a Tony nomination for The Music Man, with other Broadway credits including Guys and Dolls and Thou Shalt Not. Consuelos received a Daytime Emmy nomination for his work in All My Children and is a frequent co-host on Live with Regis and Kelly. Draper received an Emmy nomination for her work on thirtysomething, with recent theater credits including The Escort at Geffen Playhouse. Harris won a Tony for Thoroughly Modern Millie, and is well known for her work in television’s Desperate Housewives.
