Colman Domingo to Star in Final Week of The Wiz

Passing Strange star Colman Domingo will take over the title role in the New York City Center Encores Summer Stars production of The Wiz, June 29-July 5. He will replace Orlando Jones, who will depart the show one week early to film a new television series.

Thomas Kail will direct the production, which begins on June 12. It will feature choreography by Andy Blankenbuehler, music direction by Alex Lacamoire, sets by David Korins, costumes by Paul Tazewell, lighting by Ken Billington, and sound by ACME Sound Partners. The show has a book by William F. Brown, music and lyrics by Charlie Smalls, and orchestrations by Harold Wheeler.

In addition to Domingo and Jones, the show will star Ashanti as Dorothy, LaChanze as Glinda, Tichina Arnold as Evillene, Dawnn Lewis as Addaperle, Joshua Henry as the Tinman, James Monroe Iglehart as the Lion, and Christian White as the Scarecrow. Nigel will play the role of Toto.

The cast will also feature Raymond Bennett, Tanya Birl, Darlesia Cearcy, Asmeret Ghebremichael, Angela Grovey, Ebony Haswell, Lauren Lim Jackson, Carl Lation, Maurice Lauchner, Jennifer Locke, Amy McClendon, Kenna Morris, John Eric Parker, Herman Payne, Ryan Rankine, Levensky Smith, Ephraim Sykes, Adrienne Warren, Daniel J. Watts, Juson Williams, and Will Wingfield.
