Initial casting has been announced for the Broadway production of The Scottsboro Boys, featuring music and lyrics by John Kander and Fred Ebb and a book by David Thompson. The musical will begin a Broadway run in the fall at the Lyceum Theater on October 7, with an official opening on October 31. Susan Stroman will direct and choreograph.

The musical explores the infamous "Scottsboro" case of the 1930's when a group of African-American teenagers were unjustly accused of attacking two white women -- and the boys' attempts to prove their innocence. As previously announced, prior to Broadway, The Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis will present the musical, July 31-September 25.

Joshua Henry, currently appearing in American Idiot on Broadway, will play the role of Haywood Patterson. He will be joined by ten cast members from the Vineyard production, who will recreate their performances on Broadway and at the Guthrie Theater: Sean Bradford as Ozie Powell and Ruby Bates, Josh Breckenridge as Olen Montgomery, Derrick Cobey as Andy Wright, Colman Domingo as Mr. Bones, Rodney Hicks as Clarence Norris, Kendrick Jones as Willie Roberson, Forrest McClendon as Mr. Tambo, Julius Thomas III as Roy Wright, Sharon Washington as The Lady and Christian Dante White as Charles Weems and Victoria Price. Broadway casting for the roles of The Interlocutor and Eugene Williams will be announced soon.

The production will feature set design by Beowulf Borritt, costume design by Toni-Leslie James, lighting design by Ken Billington, sound design by Peter Hylenski, orchestrations by Larry Hochman, musical arrangements by Glen Kelly, and music direction by David Loud.
