Chris Noth, best known for his role of “Mr. Big” on the HBO series Sex and the City, will star as Teach in the Berkshire Theatre Festival production of David Mamet’s American Buffalo, July 26-August 13.

Noth’s New York stage credits include the Broadway revival of Gore Vidal’s The Best Man, What Didn’t Happen, and Arms and the Man. From 1990 to 1995, he played Mike Logan on the hit NBC series Law & Order; he will reprise that role this season on Law & Order: Criminal Intent.

American Buffalo will be directed by Anders Cato, who recently helmed the Rattlestick Theater production of Miss Julie. Noth’s co-stars will be Sean Nelson as Bob — the same role he had in the 1996 film version of the play — and Jim Frangione as Don.

Mamet’s tale of small-time crooks was first seen on Broadway in 1977, with Robert Duvall as Teach. In 1981, it was revived at Circle in the Square downtown with Al Pacino in the role, and that production moved to Broadway in 1983. In 2000, the play was revived again Off-Broadway with William H. Macy in the lead.
