Chocolate Factory Announces 2011-2012 Season
The Chocolate Factory, located in Long Island City, has announced its 2011-2012 season of performances.
The season will kick off with Bessie Award-winner Heather Olson’s newest work, Shy show off (September 21-24), which explores the relationship between internal emotional landscapes and external presentation. It is choreographed and performed by Olson and also features performances by Levi Gonzales and Erin Gerken; original sound by James Lo; and lighting by Chloe Z. Brown.
Created and performed by Lyndsey Karr, with collaborators Sarah Holcman, Emily Wexler, and Z Briggs, all the way (October 19-22) is a multi-media, multi-sensorial, experiential and performative environment in which the audience inhabits interchangeably the roles of witness and collaborative participant in the content of the work.
A collaboration between performer Marýa Wethers and choreographer Daria Faïn, TARGET::furnace (November 2-5) unfolds a mesmerizing topology where ferocious impact and charm work hand in hand to reveal the hidden geometry of a warrior heart. The production will include a live original score for bassoon, violin, and percussion composed by Katherine Young and performed with Christine Bard and Erin Benim, costume styling by Lydia Rodrigues, an installation by Robert Kocik and lighting design by Carrie Wood. Also on the bill is Cipher, a solo work by Samita Sinha.
Created and performed by Chase Granoff, intuition is preceding over my understanding (November 16-19) is a solo performance inspired by the Steve Paxton quote “researched the fiction of cultured dance and the ‘truth’ of improvisation”.
Written and directed by Peter Jacobs SAND (November 30-December 10) focuses on a couple who enter into a delusional world that leads to wrecking their art, architecture and child. It features video: Erte deGarces, sculpture by Tom Fruin, choreography for video by Noemie Lafrance, dramaturgy by Beth Gill, music by Eliot Krimsky, and performance: byM K S Volcofsky and Stephanie Weeks.
Curated by Sarah Maxfield, THROW (October 11, November 8, December 6) is
designed to provide artists with a springboard for ideas-in-progress, and to provide audiences with insight into the investigative process of performance-making.
In addition, The Chocolate Factory’s artistic director Brian Rogers will present an invitation only workshop of his Hot Box in the fall, with additional work-in-progress performances in February 2012.
Other artists set for the spring include Molly Lieber and Eleanor Smith (February 29-March 3); Daniel Fish (March 21-April 7) in a new theater piece drawn exclusively from audio recordings of David Foster Wallace; Katie Workum (April 18-21); Luciana Achugar (May 10-19); and Rebecca Patek (May 30-June 2).
