Carol Burnett Will Join Those Saluting Charles Strouse at Encompass Gala

Carol Burnett will make a special appearance to salute composer Charles Strouse at the Encompass New Opera Theatre benefit gala to be held on Sunday, May 7 at the National Arts Club (15 Gramercy Park South), beginning at 6pm. The event will celebrate the career of Strouse, composer of Bye Bye Birdie, All American, Golden Boy, Applause, Annie, and many other Broadway musicals.

Marian Seldes will host the benefit, which will also feature appearances by Victoria Clark, Darius de Haas, Jason Graae, Judy Kuhn, Phyllis Newman, Karen Ziemba, Madeline Gilford, Thomas Meehan, KT Sullivan, and other surprise guests. Proceeds will benefit Encompass, a non-profit company specializing in developing new music theater and contemporary opera.

Burnett’s Broadway credits include Once Upon a Mattress, Fade Out-Fade In, Putting It Together, and Moon Over Buffalo. She also co-wrote the autobiographical play Hollywood Arms, which was seen on Broadway during the 2002-2003 season.
