Broadway vet Carly Hughes, who can currently be seen as the Leading Player in Pippin, will take on the role of Velma Kelly in Broadway's Chicago at the Ambassador Theatre beginning February 2. She will play opposite Sugarland lead singer Jennifer Nettles as Roxie Hart through March 29.

Hughes recently appeared in the ensemble of Beautiful — The Carole King Musical, as well as The Book of Mormon, Ghost, Ragtime, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, and Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas. In the role of Velma Kelly, Hughes takes over for longtime Chicago star Amra-Faye Wright, who plays her final performance Sunday, February 1.

The Fred Ebb, John Kander, and Bob Fosse musical is directed by Walter Bobbie and choreographed by Ann Reinking (in the style of Fosse). This revival at the Ambassador Theatre recently became the second-longest-running show in Broadway history, and it is currently the longest-running American musical.

Both Chicago and Pippin are produced by Barry and Fran Weissler.
