Two River Theater has announced plans to kick off its 2013-2014 season with Paul Osborn’s On Borrowed Time, directed by Tony- and Oscar-winning actor Joel Grey (The Normal Heart). The production will run September 14-October 13 in Two River’s Rechnitz Theater and will open on September 20.

On Borrowed Time is a magical fantasy about the love between a little boy and his grandfather, Gramps. When Death pays them a visit, Gramps is able to outwit Death by trapping him up in a tree.

The cast will include Oakes Fegley, Robert Hogan, Tom Nelis, Alex Garfin, Brian Gildea, Brian Michael Hoffman, Betsy Hogg, Patrick Husted, Diane Kagan, Angela Reed, Steven Skybell, Lorenzo Villanueva, and John Thomas Waite.

“When I became Two River’s artistic director,” said John Dias, “one of the first calls I made was to Joel Grey… When he suggested On Borrowed Time — a play that has meant a lot to him in his own history — I was struck by how relevant, beautiful, and moving it is.”

The creative team features scenic designer Michael Carnahan, Tony Award-winning costume designer Ann Hould-Ward, Tony Award-winning lighting designer Jennifer Tipton, sound designers and composers Nathan A. Roberts and Charles Coes, wig and makeup designer Tom Watson, and fight director J. Steven White.
