Broadway's Doctor Zhivago Resumes Performances With Tam Mutu's Understudy

Broadway's Doctor Zhivago will resume performances at the Broadway Theatre tonight. Last night's performance was canceled after the show's leading man, Tam Mutu, fell ill. Mutu’s understudy, Broadway veteran Bradley Dean (The Last Ship), will step into the role of Doctor Yurii Zhivago.

Doctor Zhivago, which began performances on March 27, will open on April 21. Mutu and Kelli Barrett take on the romantic leading roles of Yurii Zhivago and Lara Guishar in the musical, which is directed by Des McAnuff and choreographed by Kelly Devine.

The musical is adapted from Boris Pasternak's novel of the same title by Michael Weller (book), Lucy Simon (music), and Michael Korie and Amy Powers (lyrics). Set amid World War I and the Russian Revolution, the musical tells the story of a political idealist who must choose between his devoted wife and his mysterious lover while competing for the latter's affection with revolutionaries and aristocrats to win her heart.
