Drama Desk Award winner Austin Pendleton (Ivanov), Nicholas L. Ashe (The Lion King), Kyle Beltran (In the Heights), Grantham Coleman (As You Like It), Tony Award winner Chuck Cooper (The Piano Lesson), Jeremy Pope (Little Shop of Horrors), and Wallace Smith (Godspell) will star in Manhattan Theatre Club's world premiere of Tarell Alvin McCraney's Choir Boy. Trip Cullman will direct the production, set to run for five weeks only from June 18-July 21, with a July 2 opening.

Choir Boy is the gospel music-infused story of Pharus, a student at Charles R. Drew Prep School for Boys, who wants nothing more than to take his rightful place as leader of the school's legendary gospel choir. He must struggle to find his way in hallowed halls of this institution.

The play's creative team will include David Zinn (scenic and costume design), Peter Kaczorowski (lighting design), Fitz Patton (sound design), and Jason Michael Webb (music director).

Tarell Alvin McCraney is a graduate of the Yale School of Drama's playwriting program. Previous works include The Brother/Sister Plays, The Breach, and Run, Mourner, Run.
