The stars will come out on June 16 as Bryant Park hosts the second annual “Broadway Under the Stars” event to kick off this year’s Broadway in Bryant Park series of concerts.

The theme for the 2003 edition of “Broadway Under the Stars” is “romance.” Theater stars will be on hand to perform music from the Broadway songbook, accompanied by a 35-piece orchestra and clips from classic romantic films. Casting has yet to be announced, but the show will be directed and choreographed by Ann Reinking (The Look of Love, Chicago).

The Bryant Park lawn will open at 5:30pm for picnicking; the concert will begin at 8pm. Admission is free and early arrival is recommended. Chairs will be available only on the gravel area, around the lawn, and on the fountain terrace, so attendees are urged to bring their own blankets or sheets.

The concerts of the Broadway in Bryant Park series will be held on Thursday afternoons, 12:30pm-1:45pm. The schedule of performances is as follows: 42nd Street, Big River, Nine, and Stomp on Thursday, July 10; Hank Williams: Lost Highway, Dream a Little Dream, The Phantom of the Opera, and Man of La Mancha on July 17; Gypsy, Thoroughly Modern Millie, and The Thing About Men on July 24; The Prince and the Pauper, La Bohème, and The Lion King on July 31; Movin’ Out, Beauty and the Beast, Cabaret, and Mamma Mia! on August 7; Chicago, Rent, Zanna, Don’t!, and Aida on August 14; and Cafe A Go-Go, The Donkey Show, The Boy from Oz, and A Christmas Carol on August 21.
