Broadway Bound Angels the Musical Cancels Louisiana Engagement

Angels The Musical, which recently announced a planned Broadway opening during the 2008-2009 season, has cancelled its engagement in Shreveport, LA, citing technical requirements. A press statement claims plans for Broadway are unaffected by this production delay.

Angels tells the story of the ancient war between the Angels and Lucifer’s fallen minions. Sera, the Angel of Light aspires to a more heroic role, and her ambition is manipulated by Lucifer, which results in tragic consequences.

As previously announced, Robert Cuccioli, Jessica Grové and Nicholas Rodriguez will star in the new musical by Ken Lai and Marcus Cheong, which will be directed by Rich Fowler.

The cast will also include Todd Buonopane, Kevin T. Collins, Kerri Jill Garbis, Trey Gillen, Alan H. Green, Brittney Lee Hamilton, Holly Heiser, Tim Hunter, Erica Jacob, Kolina Janneck, Melina Kalomas, Erin Kruse, Brian Mathis, Adam Monley, Kathleen Elizabeth Monteleone, Ellie Mooney, Ron Nahass, Shane Rhoades, Caesar Samayoa, Rena Strober, Molly Tynes, Kevin Vortmann, and Eric William Whitehead.

The design team will include Skip Mercier (scenic & costume design), Lightswitch New York (lighting & projection design), Bernard Fox (sound design), Lynne Hockney (choreography), Christopher D. Littlefield (musical director), ZFX, Inc. (flying effects), and J&M Special Effects (special effects).

Cuccioli received a Tony Award nomination for Jekyll & Hyde. His other New York credits include Jacques Brel…, And the World Goes Round, and The Rothschilds. Grové’s Broadway credits include Sunday in the Park With George, Thoroughly Modern Millie, and Les Misérables. Rodriguez appeared in the Broadway production of Tarzan, and is scheduled to star in the show’s national tour.
