Broadway Babies

Jason Robert Brown, Victoria Clark, Barbara Cook, Eisa Davis, Tovah Feldshuh, Jackie Hoffman, Judy Kuhn, Megan Mullally, Euan Morton, James Naughton, Daphne Rubin-Vega, and Tom Wopat move from the Great White Way to cabaret this month!

You don’t need to go to Broadway to see some of Broadway’s greatest talents. That’s what New York’s cabaret rooms are for!

At Feinstein’s at the Loews Regency, the extraordinary Tovah Feldshuh returns to the cabaret stage with Tovah in a Nutshell (March 4-22); Café Carlyle welcomes back Tony Award winner Barbara Cook (March 4-April 12), while The Oak Room at the Algonquin Hotel hosts another great Broadway star (and former Tony Award nominee), Euan Morton (March 4-29).

Broadway at Birdland brings us Kirby and Beverly Ward (March 3), the Broadway Boys (March 9), singer-songwriters Marcy Heisler and Zina Goldrich (March 10), Tony Award winning composer-lyricist Jason Robert Brown and singer Lauren Kennedy in a special concert version of The Last 5 Years (March 17, 18), and songwriters Michael Heitzman and Ilene Reid, with a host of special guests including Ann Harada, Liz Larsen, Liz McCartney, Beth Malone, Janet Metz, Judy McLane, and Jesse Nager (March 24).

There is plenty of top tier talent at The Metropolitan Room, including Luba Mason (March 1-2), Tom Wopat (March 3, 10, 17), Cheryl Freeman (March 5, 26), Baby Jane Dexter (March 8, 15, 22, 29), Eric Comstock and Barbara Fasano (March 8), Joan Crowe (March 13, 20, 27), Sarah Rice and Leona Mitchell (March 16, 22, 29, 30), and the wonderful Amanda McBroom (March 19-22).

Over at Joe’s Pub this month, the line-up includes a number of Broadway names, including David Singer (March 9), the irrepressible Jackie Hoffman (March 10), and Eisa Davis (March 10), plus Marlon Saunders (March 17), Lina Koutrakos (March 27), and Julian Fleisher (March 27).

The Zipper Factory is hopping, with the amazing Wau Wau Sisters (March 1), the Bindlestiff Family Circus Winter Kabaret (March 2, 9, 16, 23, 30), the extraordinary Kathleen Chalfant and Patricia Elliott in Vita and Virginia (March 3, 10, 17, 24, 31), Jeremy Schonfeld (March 3), Joy Behar (March 13, 27), Daphne Rubin-Vega (March 15), Megan Mullally and the Supreme Music Program (March 24), and the monthly installment of Don’t Quit Your Night Job, with guests including Norbert Leo Butz, Sutton Foster, Jordan Gelber, Alexander Gemignani, Andrea Martin, Christopher SIeber, Alicia Witt, and George Wendt.

Elsewhere around town, the fabulous Diane Schuur checks into the Blue Note (March 6-9). The hysterical Celebrity Autobiography: In Their Own Words cracks up audiences at The Triad (March 3, 10, 17, 24), while a new edition of Political Idol checks in there (March 16, 23, 30). Meanwhile, Tony Award winner Victoria Clark and Aaron Lazar host the monthly New Voices concert at The Duplex (March 10).

Outside of the Big Apple, Tony winner James Naughton plays NJPAC’s Chase Room (March 22); the lovely Royal Room at the Colony Hotel in Palm Beach, Florida welcomes
Lorenzo Lamas (March 1), Steve Tyrell (March 4-15), and the legendary Marilyn Maye (March 18-29); and the brand new Rrazz Room at San Francisco’s Nikko Hotel offers two sensational women: Paula West (through March 16) and Lainie Kazan (March 25-30).
