The Broadway Premiere of An American in Paris Announces Theater and Dates
Robert Fairchild and Leanne Cope star in the new production.
Producers of the upcoming world premiere of An American in Paris have announced that the musical's Broadway production will open at the Palace Theatre on April 12, 2015, with previews beginning March 13. The musical will open on Broadway following its world premiere at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris this fall.
An American in Paris is inspired by the Oscar-winning film of the same name. The plot follows the romance between World War II veteran Jerry Mulligan, an expat living in France, and Lise Dassin, a young French woman engaged to a cabaret singer. New York City Ballet principal dancer Robert Fairchild and London Royal Ballet first dancer Leanne Cope lead the world premiere's cast. The Paris principal company is also set to include Veanne Cox (Madame Baurel), Jill Paice (Milo Davenport), Brandon Uranowitz (Adam Hochberg), and Max von Essen (Henri Baurel).
Featuring a book by Craig Lucas and a score by George Gershwin and Ira Gershwin, the production will be directed and choreographed by Christopher Wheeldon. The creative team includes Bob Crowley (sets and costumes), Natasha Katz (lighting) and Jon Weston (sound) with a musical score adapted and arranged by Rob Fisher. Brad Haak is the musical director, with orchestrations by Christopher Austin.
