Bill Cosby, Danny Glover to Host Benefit Celebrating Bassist Ron Carter

Bill Cosby will join the previously reported Danny Glover as co-host of a Juilliard Jazz benefit event celebrating bassist Ron Carter entitled Ron Carter at 75: A Life in Music, March 27 at 8pm in Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center.

The evening will feature performances by Carter himself as well as guest artists including Carl Allen, Payton Crossley, Leon Dorsey, Benny Golson, Hubert Laws, Boots Maleson, Russell Malone, Christian McBride, Mulgrew Miller, Rolando Morales-Matos, Lewis Nash, Donald Vega, Buster Williams, Ben Wolfe, and more.

Proceeds from the event will benefit Julliard Jazz and go toward student scholarships. Tickets will include a private reception with the artists after the concert.

Among his many accomplishments, Ron Carter won a Grammy award in 1988 for the instrumental composition Call Sheet Blues from the film ‘Round Midnight, and he scored and arranged music for a number of other films. He is the author of Building Jazz Bass Lines, a series of books on playing jazz; Ron Carter, Bass Lines; and The Music of Ron Carter, which contains 130 of his published and recorded compositions.
