Bette Midler and Sharon Stone to Star in The Tale of the Allergist's Wife Film

The new film adaptation of Charles Busch’s comedy is expected to be directed by Andy Fickman.

Bette Midler and Sharon Stone will team up to star in a film adaptation of Charles Busch's 2000 comedy The Tale of the Allergist's Wife.

Midler will take on the role of Marjorie Taub, an Upper West Sider in the midst of a later-life crisis, whose life is changed by the arrival of of her old friend Lee (Stone). Andy Fickman will direct the feature, for which additional information has not yet been revealed. Busch will pen the screenplay.

The Tale of the Allergist's Wife premiered at Manhattan Theatre Club in February 2000, before transferring to Broadway later that year. The 777-performance run earned Tony and Drama Desk nominations, and starred Linda Lavin and Michele Lee.

Robert Cort and Daryl Roth will produce the film, with Jeffrey Melnick serving as executive producer.
