Berry Gordy, Aretha Franklin, L.A. Reid, Smokey Robinson at Motown: The Musical Launch

A host of music legends were on hand for the official launch of the upcoming Broadway production Motown: The Musical, held Thursday, September 27 at the Nederlander Theatre. The production will begin performances on March 11, 2013 in advance of an April 14 opening at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre.

Charles Randolph Wright directs the work, which features a book by Motown Records founder Berry Gordy, Jr., and a score culled from Motown’s legendary catalogue. The production stars Brandon Victor Dixon and Valisia LeKae as Gordy and Diana Ross, respectively.

Guests at the launch included Aretha Franklin, Smokey Robinson, Lamont Dozier, Brian Holland, Nona Hendryx, Otis Williams, Clive Davis, L.A. Reid, the Reverend Jesse Jackson, Star Jones, Hoda Kotb, Eskedar Gobeze, Robert Pennino, Erica Holton, Frances Robinson, and Marcus Canty.
