Benanti, Dunagan, Fishburne, Gaines, Lavin, LuPone, Szot, et al. Win Drama Desk Awards

The 53rd Annual Drama Desk Awards were announced tonight at a ceremony at the F.H. LaGuardia Concert Hall at Lincoln Center. South Pacific led the field with five wins, including Outstanding Revival of a Musical. August: Osage County won three awards, including Outstanding Play. Passing Strange, which won for Outstanding Musical, also took three awards, as did the musical revival of Gypsy, which won for actors Patti LuPone, Laura Benanti, and Boyd Gaines.
Non-competitive ensemble awards were also bestowed upon the casts of The Dining Room and The Homecoming. Additional special awards were given out to Edward Albee, James Earl Jones, 59E59 Theaters, and Playwrights Horizons.
