Beautiful! The Dixie Chicks and Lady Gaga to Perform for 2014 MusiCares Person of the Year Carole King

Carole King, subject of the new Broadway musical Beautiful, has been recognized for her creative accomplishments and charitable work.

Four-time Grammy winner and subject of the new Broadway show Beautiful, Carole King has been selected to be honored as the 2014 MusiCares Person of the Year. Her artistic accomplishments and charitable work will be recognized at a January 24 concert and benefit gala.

Artists scheduled to perform in King’s honor at the event include Dixie Chicks, Lady Gaga, Bette Midler, Jason Mraz, James Taylor, and Steven Tyler. Music-industry veterans Lou Adler, Martin Bandier, and Rob Light, along with artist James Taylor, are tribute chairs. Musical direction will be by Robbie Kondor.

King’s charity work has included environmental organizations in support of forest-ecosystem protection as well as a range of political causes.

“We are honored to celebrate Carole King as the 2014 MusiCares Person of the Year. Her contributions as a songwriter and performer have truly changed the landscape of pop music, and her philanthropy speaks volumes about her generosity and personal passions,” said president/CEO of the MusiCares Foundation, Neil Portnow, in a statement.
