The Bay Street Theatre in Sag Harbor will host a celebration of the life of Elaine Steinbeck and her contributions to the theater on Friday, August 15, from 3pm to 5pm.

Steinbeck was one of Broadway’s first female stage managers; in that capacity, she worked on such productions as Mr. Sycamore and Oklahoma!. She died on April 27 at 88, having served as chairman of Bay Street’s patrons committee and as a member of the company’s board of trustees. The theater’s mainstage was officially named after her in a special ceremony in 1998.

The August 15 celebration will be held at the Bay Street Theatre and is open to the public. Speakers will include playwrights Edward Albee, Terrence McNally, and Joe Pintauro, actor Eli Wallach, and others yet to be announced.
