Baba Brinkman’s The Canterbury Tales Remixed to Play Off-Broadway

Baba Brinkman will perform The Canterbury Tales Remixed at the SoHo Playhouse, running November 23 – January 8, with an opening on December 4. Darren Lee Cole will direct the production.

The show takes Geoffrey Chaucer’s timeless Canterbury Tales and links them with hip-hop lyrics and frames them with re-imaginings of the epic poems Gilgamesh and Beowulf. The show will also feature music and “turntablism” by Mr. Simmonds.

Brinkman’s solo show The Rap Guide to Evolution is currently playing at the theater and will continue through November 6. The piece has also been seen at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, where it won a Scotsman Fringe First Award for Best New Theatre Writing. In addition, he has released three albums, including The Rebel Cell, a hip-hop play that won the “Spirit of the Fringe Award” when it played in Edinburgh.
