Away From Broadway

Christine Andreas, Betty Buckley, Lynda Carter, Chuck Cooper, Jason Danieley, Eden Espinosa, Manoel Felciano, Cheyenne Jackson, Liz McCartney, Marin Mazzie, Kelli O'Hara, Kate Shindle, KT Sullivan, John Tartaglia, and Tom Wopat are some of the Broadway stars on the cabaret stage this month. logo

Some of Broadway's biggest stars won't be found on the Great White Way this month. All you have to do is head to the city's top cabarets and nightspots.

Feinstein's at the Loews Regency's lineup features Cheyenne Jackson (March 2 and 8), Betty Buckley: Broadway by Request (through March 7), Jackie Mason (March 10-21), Marin Mazzie and Jason Danieley (March 24-April 7), and John Tartaglia (March 30). Meanwhile, The Oak Room at the Algonquin Hotel is presenting Sheera Ben-David (through March 7), Tony Award nominee Tom Wopat (March 10-21), and KT Sullivan (March 24-April 11), and the swanky Café Carlyle offers the great international chanteuse Ute Lemper (through March 7), London-based singing sensation Barb Jungr (March 11-28), and the sensational Kelli O'Hara (March 31-April 11).

The always exciting goings-on at Birdland include Scott Siegel's Broadway Jukebox (March 1, 8, 15, 22, 29) with special guests including Cheryl Freeman, Annie Golden, Michael Winther, Julia Murney, Kerry O'Malley, Brad Oscar, Norm Lewis, Aaron Lazar, and Emily Skinner, along with The Broadway Boys (March 2), composer Michel Legrand (March 3-8), singer-songwriter John Bucchino (March 9), Christine Pedi (March 16), Kate Shindle and John McDaniel (March 23), Jack Donahue (March 30), singer-songwriter Georgia Stitt (March 30), a concert version of the musical The Last Five Years starring its author, Jason Robert Brown (March 31-April 4), and John Pizzarelli and Jessica Molaskey (March 31-April 4).

The Metropolitan Room continues to bring in some of the country's finest acts, including Ilene Graff (March 1), Shelly Burch (March 1-2), Eric Comstock and Barbara Fasano (March 3, 6-8, 13-15,) Julie Wilson (March 4-7, 11-14), Nina Hennessey (March 16), Shawn Ryan (March 20-22), Tony Award winner Chuck Cooper (March 23 and 30), and Judith Owen (March 25-28).

Joe's Pub's something-for-everyone offerings include appearances by Allen Touissant (March 1), Manoel Felciano (March 3 and 14), Richard Barone (March 6), Bettye Lavette (March 8), Madeleine Peyrox (March 10), Hazelle Goodman (March 13), Flops 'n' Cutz 5 (March 15), Judy Gold (March 20), Our Hit Parade with Bridget Everett, Kenny Mellman, and Neal Medlyn (March 20), and Eden Espinosa (March 22-24).

Elsewhere around town, the West Bank Cafe's Laurie Beechman Theatre hosts Carey Anderson (March 2), Christina Bianco (March 4), Jim Van Slyje (March 5, 7, 14 and 15), Rosemary Loar (March 8), Brandon Cutrell (March 11), Marieann Meringolo (March 12), Liz McCartney (March 22 and 29), and Jonathan Whitton (March 30); at the Triad, the hilarious Celebrity Autobiography: In Their Own Words continues its star-studded Monday night run (March 2, 9, 16, 23, 30) and the new revue Brother, Can You Spare a Dime? (March 6-8, 13-15, 20-22, 27-29); and the Allen Room at Jazz at Lincoln Center is home to An Evening With Lynda Carter (March 13-14).

Finally, Morgan's Cabaret at the Prince Theater in Philadelphia will present Broadway star Christine Andreas and Morgan Silvestri in Two for the Road (March 11-22); and the Colony Hotel's Royal Room in Palm Beach, Florida delights audiences with appearances by Jack Jones (March 3-7), Ann Hampton Callaway (March 10-14, 17-21), Bob Lappin (March 24-28), and Marilyn McCoo & Billy Davis, Jr. (March 31).
