John Wells’ new film adaptation of Tracy Letts’ Pulitzer Prize-winning play August: Osage County only received two 2014 Golden Globe nominations, an award widely considered to be a precursor to the Oscars.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association honored stars Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts with acting nominations (in the comedy/musical categories of Best Performance by an Actress and Best Performance by a Supporting Actress, respectively), but the film, which featured a screenplay adapted by the playwright, received no other nods.

Other theater-centric names on the list of nominees in the film categories were Cate Blanchett (Blue Jasmine), Judi Dench (Philomena), Tom Hanks (Captain Phillips), Oscar Isaac (Inside Llewyn Davis), Sally Hawkins (Blue Jasmine), Bradley Cooper (American Hustle), and Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson Lopez (Frozen).

On the television end, stage veterans Kerry Washington (Scandal), Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad), Liev Schreiber (Ray Donovan), Michael Sheen (Masters of Sex), Kevin Spacey (House of Cards), James Spader (The Blacklist), Edie Falco (Nurse Jackie), Jim Parsons (The Big Bang Theory), Jessica Lange (American Horror Story: Coven), Helen Mirren (Phil Spector), Elisabeth Moss (Top of the Lake), Al Pacino (Phil Spector), Janet McTeer (The White Queen), and Corey Stoll (House of Cards) all received nominations.
