Audra McDonald to Host New York Philharmonic’s Opening Gala for PBS’ Live From Lincoln Center

Five-time Tony Award winner Audra McDonald will host the Live From Lincoln Center PBS telecast of the New York Philharmonic’s Opening Gala conducted by Music Director Alan Gilbert, to air on Thursday, September 27.

The program features violinist Itzhak Perlman performing personal favorites including Williams’ Theme from Schindler’s List and Massenet’s “Meditation” from Thaϊs, along with works by Sarasate, Tchaikovsky and Rimsky-Korsakov. The broadcast features extended artist profiles, as well as Respighi’s Fountains of Rome and Pines of Rome.

McDonald is currently starring on Broadway in The Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess, for which she won her fifth Tony. Additional Tony wins were for Master Class, Ragtime, A Raisin in the Sun, and Carousel.
