AUDIO SHARE: Mary Testa Singing "There Is Greatness In Me"

Ghostlight Records has shared “There Is Greatness In Me” — a track from the forthcoming original cast recording of the Transport Group’s production of Queen of the Mist — for streaming on TheaterMania. As previously reported, the album will be released on June 19 in both digital and physical CD formats.

Michael John LaChiusa‘s musical revisits the life of Anna Edson Taylor, who, in 1901, set out to be the first woman to shoot Niagara Falls, in a barrel of her own design. Jack Cummings III directed the production.

The company features 2012 Drama Desk Award winner Mary Testa as Taylor, along with D.C. Anderson, Stanley Bahorek, Theresa McCarthy, Julia Murney, Andrew Samonsky, and Tally Sessions.

In selecting this track for TheaterMania, LaChiusa has said: “This song introduces us to Anna Edson Taylor — as portrayed by the great Mary Testa: an indomitable, passionate, incorrigible, stubborn, artistic, and defiant 63-year-old woman who demands more from life than she’s been offered. It’s a tour-de-force for any singer, and Mary doesn’t shy from it — she delivers the number with gusto. And Michael Starobin’s orchestrations are, like his work for the entire score, ingenious. The wonderful Chris Fenwick conducts a small orchestra that makes a mountain of sound.”
