Attend the Tale: Sweeney Todd Will Return to Broadway This Fall logo
A recent, highly acclaimed London production of Sweeney Todd, the Stephen Sondheim-Hugh Wheeler musical about a murderous Victorian barber and the woman who bakes his victims into pies, will be seen in New York this fall. The show is expected to open on Broadway in mid-October; neither a theater nor casting information has yet been announced.

Director John Doyle and musical director/arranger Sarah Travis will recreate their work from the London production, which opened at the Trafalgar Theatre on July 27 of last year and closed there on October 9, then reopened at the New Ambassadors Theatre in the West End on October 13 and finished its limited engagement there on February 5.

The original production of Sweeney Todd opened on Broadway in 1979 and won eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical. The piece was last revived on Broadway in 1989 at the Circle in the Square Theatre, and it has also been performed by the New York City Opera and the New York Philharmonic.
