Arts and Human Rights Conference to Be Held in Conjunction with Sarah Ruhl's Passion Play logo

A full-day Arts and Human Rights Conference will be held on Tuesday, May 25 at The Irondale Center, in conjunction with Sarah Ruhl's Passion Play, which is currently playing in the theater, through June 5.

Sponsored by Epic Theatre Ensemble, Culture Project, Lark Play Development Center, Rising Circle Theater Collective and Center for International Human Rights, John Jay College of Criminal Justice, CUNY the conference is will be the final event of the previously announced Passion Play Festival.

The conference will start at 10am, using Grace, a new play by Deepa Purohit and Sanit De Silva, as the starting point for a dialogue arranged around the themes of "The Moral Relevance of Boundaries, Empathy and Trauma and Healing." The day will conclude with a 7pm staged reading of Grace that is free and open to those not attending the workshop.

Inspired by the historic festivals where everyday citizens came together to elevate their communities by staging the life and death of Christ, Passion Play stars Hale Appleman, Brendan Averett, Dominic Fumusa, Polly Noonan, Daniel Pearce, Alex Podulke, Keith Reddin, Godfrey L. Simmons Jr., T. Ryder Smith, Kate Turnbull, and Nicole Wiesner.
