The Negro Ensemble Company has announced casting for The Picture Box, which will begin performances on January 12 at the Beckett Theatre on Theatre Row prior to an official opening of January 15. Charles Weldon will direct the production.

Written by Cate Ryan, the play focuses on a black man, who travels from the deep South to Long Island, where he goes to work for a white family, and in the process becomes the caretaker for the little girl who has been emotionally abandoned after her mother’s second marriage.

The company will feature Malachy Cleary, Arthur French, Elain Graham, and Jennifer Van Dyck.

The creative team will include scenic designer Patrice Davidson, costume designer Mark Caswell, and lighting designer Ves Weaver.
