New York Theatre Workshop (NYTW) and Noor Theatre have announced casting for the world premiere of Lameece Issaq and Jacob Kader’s Food and Fadwa, which will begin performances at NYTW on May 18, prior to an official opening on June 7. Shana Gold will direct the production.

The play centers on an unmarried, 30-something Palestinian woman living in Bethlehem in the politically volatile West Bank, who insists on continuing the preparations for her younger sister’s wedding, despite constraints of daily life under occupation.

The company will feature playwright Issaq, along with Maha Chehlaoui, Nasser Faris, Kathryn Kates, Arian Moayed, Heather Raffo, and Haaz Sleiman.

The creative team will include Andromache Chalfant (scenic design) Gabriel Berry (costume design), and Japhy Weideman (lighting design), as well as sound designer Jane Shaw, who, along with music consultants Amir ElSaffar and George Ziadeh, also will also provide original music.
