Applications Available for 2004 Princess Grace Awards

The Princess Grace Foundation-USA has announced that applications are now available for the 2004 Princess Grace Awards in theater and playwriting.

Established in 1982, the foundation has so far awarded more than 300 grants. It is dedicated “to identifying and assisting young artists in theater, dance and film.” Awards are based on the quality of the emerging artist’s past work, his or her potential for future excellence, and the appropriateness of the award toward the artist’s individual growth.

To apply for one of four theater awards, a candidate must be nominated by the artistic director of a theater company or the dean or department chairman of a professional theater school. To apply for a playwriting fellowship — which includes a $7,500 cash grant, a residency at New Dramatists, Inc., the inclusion of the work in the New Dramatists lending library, and representation by Samuel French — playwrights must submit an unproduced, unpublished play of any length. The deadline for consideration for both theater and playwriting categories is March 31. Candidates must be United States citizens or have permanent residence at the time of application.

Applications may be downloaded from the website www.pgfusa.com. For additional information, phone 212-317-1470 or e-mail the foundation’s grants coordinator, Christine Giancatarino, at cmg@pgfusa.com.
