Angela Lansbury, Scarlett Johansson to Be Eligible in Featured Categories for 2010 Tony Awards

The Tony Awards Administration Committee has announced additional eligibility rulings for the 2009-2010 season. The Tony Awards will be broadcast in a live three-hour ceremony from Radio City Music Hall on the CBS television network on Sunday, June 13.

Despite their above the title billing, Angela Lansbury and Scarlett Johansson will be considered eligible in the Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Musical/Play categories, respectively, for their work in A Little Night Music and A View from the Bridge. Jessica Hecht will also be considered eligible in the Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Play category for her performance in the latter.

Sahr Ngaujah will be eligible in the Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical category for his performance in the title role of Fela!, while his alternate in the role, Kevin Mambo, will not be eligible, as he was not the performer on opening night. Performers in the musical Irving Berlin’s White Christmas, which debuted for a limited run in the 2008-2009 season and was brought back this season with a new cast, will be considered eligible, with James Clow and Melissa Errico in the Best Performance by a Leading Actor/Actress in a Musical category, and Mara Davi and Tony Yazbeck in the Featured categories.

James Spader will be the only performer considered in the Leading Actor in a Play category for Race, with David Alan Grier, Richard Thomas, and Kerry Washington all in Featured categories. Michael Cerveris and Laura Benanti will be considered eligible in the Best Performance by a Leading Actor/Actress in a Play category respectively for their performances in In the Next Room or The Vibrator Play.

In other rulings, Jim Norton, Cheyenne Jackson, and Kate Baldwin will be eligible in the Best Performance by a Leading Actor/Actress in a Musical category respectively for Finian’s Rainbow. Quentin Earl Darrington, Robert Petkoff, and Christiane Noll will be eligible in the Best Performance by a Leading Actor/Actress in a Musical category for their performances in Ragtime.

All other decisions were consistent with the opening night credits.
