Andy Karl will star in a benefit reading of Chasing the River, a new play by Jean Giebel, taking place on Monday, January 29, at Pershing Square Signature Center's Alice Griffin Jewel Box Theatre. All proceeds will be donated to the Joyful Heart Foundation, which works to transform society's response to sexual assault, domestic violence, and child abuse.

"We are thrilled at the opportunity to use Jean's powerful play, Chasing the River, to support and shine a light on the critical work of the Joyful Heart Foundation," said Karen Carpenter, who is directing the presentation. "Their transformative work promotes a holistic approach to healing for survivors. They have been reforming legislation to ensure greater access to justice and healing for survivors, and changing the way society thinks about, talks about, and responds to this violence. In this pivotal time of the #MeToo movement and the #TimesUp initiative, we look forward to using the power of art, to contribute to the tipping point that enables us to transform our society for the better."

Raul Castillo, Melissa Gilbert, Deborah Rayne, and Adina Verson will also star in the reading. Set in a small town in Pennsylvania, Chasing the River is described as follows: "…a young woman returns home to the scene of the horrible events that changed the course of her life forever. As she searches for a way to make peace with her past, new revelations and unexpected reunions clash with her memories of her childhood. Forced to face the painful truth, she begins to realize that even though life dealt her a losing hand, there might still be a chance to turn things around. It all depends on how she plays her cards."
