Andre De Shields, Maggie Lacey Among Fox Foundation Fellowship Recipients

Nora Cole, Andre De Shields, Maggie Lacey, Geoffrey L. Simmons, Jr., and Bruce Turk are among the seventh round of recipients of the Fox Foundation and Theatre Communications Group’s Resident Actor Fellowships.
The program is designed to support actors’ professional and artistic development, to enrich relationships between actors and non-profit theaters, and ensure professional commitment to live theater.
Lacey, who received an Extraordinary Potential grant of $15,000, will travel the country in pursuit of vocal traditions that go beyond the spoken word and use them to tell stories. She will also bring her work to hospice patients unable to attend theater. Lacey will be working with Cleveland Play House.
Cole, De Shields, Simmons, and Turk will receive Distinguished Achievement grants of $25,000, with $7,500 going to their host theater companies in support of their residencies.
Working with the Geva Theatre Center, Cole will research, write, and perform her third solo show based on 50 letters and postcards written by her soldier uncle to her aunt during World War II.
De Shields, working with Victory Gardens Theater, will develop his experimental methodology, The Golden Triangle and the 5W Stack/Inner Athlete System, through a new work called Confessions of a P.I.M.P. (Positive Individual Making Progress).
Simmons will study with voice and text coaches to learn how to take on lead classical roles that require an actor to vocally and physically carry a show. He will work with Epic Theatre Ensemble.
Turn will work with Hartford Stage to investigate comedy in French comic plays, conduct dramaturgical work, receive vocal training, and travel to London and Paris for intensive studies.
