Broadway Gives Back

An Inside Look at the Covenant House Broadway Sleep Out, With Claybourne Elder and Rachel Sussman

Exclusive photos from the event that raised over $130,000 for the charity.

The first-ever Covenant House Broadway Sleep Out was held on Monday, August 19. Fifty-three Broadway stars took part in the event, sleeping on the streets outside the Covenant House Crisis Shelter on 41st Street and 10th Avenue in solidarity with the 300 homeless young people living inside. The event, chaired by Covenant House board member Capathia Jenkins (Newsies), as well as lyricist Neil Berg and Tony Award nominees Frank Wildhorn (Bonnie and Clyde) and Stephanie J. Block (Little Miss Sunshine), raised over $136,000 to provide food, clothing, shelter, and hope for youth in need.

TheaterMania enlisted two of the participants, producer Rachel Sussman and actor Claybourne Elder, to share their photos of the evening, which you can find — along with TM photographer David Gordon’s shots — in the gallery below.
