Amy Wright to Direct Pearl Theatre’s Subject Was Roses

Amy Wright will direct the Pearl Theatre Company’s production of Frank D. Gilroy’s The Subject Was Roses, to run April 9-May 9 at New York City Center Stage II. Wright replaces the previously announced Sheldon Patinkin, who has withdrawn from the production due to recovery and rehabilitation from a recent surgery. Casting will be announced at a later date.

Wright’s credits as a performer include the original Broadway casts of The Fifth of July and Noises Off as well as Mrs. Klein with Uta Hagen off-Broadway. As a director, she has staged The Cherry Orchard, The Hot l Baltimore, The Birthday Party, and Three Sisters at the HB Studio in Greenwich Village, where she teaches.

Gilroy’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play revolves around the return of a young man from the battlefields of World War II to the turbulent marriage of his parents.
